Road Accident Claims Six Lives, Injures Three Along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

Six people were killed and three injured in a truck collision in the Ilo-Awela axis of the Toll Gate section along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, according to the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

TRACE’s Ota Divisional Commander, Mr. Salau Hammed, confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota on Tuesday.

According to Hammed, the collision, which involved a vehicle, a trike, and nine people, happened at approximately 9:55 a.m.

In line with An eyewitness told him that a truck heading toward the Toll Gate from Ilo-Awela lost control owing to a malfunctioning brake and collided with a tricycle, other cars, and people.

Three people suffered significant injuries, and six deaths—five male and one female—were reported.

“The survivors are being treated at Ota General Hospital, while the victims’ bodies have been moved to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital,” he stated.

Hammed stated that TRACE staff and sister agencies are on the ground to handle the situation and that attempts were being made to remove the wreckage, including the truck, the impacted cars, and the trike, from the highway.

He cautioned drivers to check the condition of their cars before placing them on the road and to avoid speeding.
