Next week, as President Bola Tinubu arrives for a state visit sponsored by King Charles III, Britain will limit airspace and station armed police officers in Windsor.
On Wednesday, March 18, Tinubu and his wife Oluremi Tinubu are scheduled to start the tour with a reception at Windsor Castle.
Thames Valley Police said it is collaborating with the Royal Household, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and other security partners in a statement posted on its website on Wednesday.
Airspace restrictions over Windsor Castle, which are in effect year-round, will be extended on Wednesday, March 18, from 7 a.m. to 11.59 p.m., according to the force.
The aviation limitations were a component of a larger security operation for the visit, according to Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the Joint Operations Unit of Thames Valley Police.
“Air restrictions are only one aspect of our extensive security operation for Nigerian President Tinubu’s state visit next week; there are numerous additional precautions you won’t see.Nigerian Present Situation
“This event has been meticulously planned and prepared for, and as a force, we have a great deal of experience policing Royal events in Windsor,” Hall stated.
He warned that any violation would be a criminal offense under the Air Navigation Order and may result in arrest, and that the force will take a tough stance in implementing the limitations.
“We will be taking a strong stance in enforcing the restrictions; anyone who violates them may be arrested and will be guilty of a criminal offense under the Air Navigation Order.”
The police chief announced that in addition to neighborhood policing and Project Servator resources, officers with specialized skills, including as search teams, the Mounted Section, traffic policing, and armed units, would be stationed across Windsor.
“We will also be sending a large number of police officers with specialized skills to Windsor, including our search teams, Mounted Section, Roads Policing, and armed units, while our neighborhood and Project Servator resources will also be on the ground interacting with the public,” he stated.
In addition, hostile vehicle mitigation barriers, a massive closed-circuit television network, and other unknown security measures will be implemented by the authorities for the event.
“To make sure the event runs safely, we will also be using the extensive CCTV network in Windsor, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers, and many other security measures that you may not be able to see,” stated Hall.
He asked people to stay watchful in support of the security effort.
