Three Pakistani paramilitary members were murdered on Monday in a suicide explosion at the border force headquarters in Peshawar city, according to authorities who spoke to AFP.

According to Peshawar police chief Mian Saeed, “three FC (Federal Constabulary) personnel deployed at the gate were martyred and four others were wounded.” He also stated that two terrorists were shot dead by security forces, while one attacker detonated explosives.

Just before rush hour, at 8:10 am (0310 GMT), the gunmen attacked the property on Saddar Road, one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city.

A suspected bomber’s body parts were discovered by an AFP reporter outside the main gate, which was covered in shrapnel holes.

“The attack has concluded, and a clearance operation is underway to determine whether any unexploded ordnance is present,” Zulfiqar Hameed, the police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, told AFP.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The province has traditionally been a hotspot for extremist violence, which has escalated since the Taliban took back control of Kabul in 2021. The province borders Afghanistan.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, denounced the attack and praised the security forces’ “timely action” for preventing more fatalities.

“This incident’s perpetrators should be identified as soon as possible and brought to justice,” stated Sharif.

“We will foil terrorists’ malicious plans to undermine Pakistan’s integrity.”
