Following new negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Super Eagles players would receive $30,000 each for making it to the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles rejected a first offer of $15,000 per player, according to ScoreNigeria. A revised amount of $30,000 was eventually reached through negotiations, which is better than the incentives received at the most recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. Incentive packages for the tournament’s latter stages have also been agreed upon by both parties.
According to reports, the Super Eagles defeated the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 3-2 on Saturday, December 27, securing qualification with one game remaining and securing their spot in the knockout stages.
Later today at 5 p.m., Eric Chelle’s team will play their final Group C game against the Cranes of Uganda.
Winger Samuel Chukwueze had a lighthearted moment during training when he expressed his opinions about the circumstances in Morocco, setting aside the bonus discussions.
As the players go for a team stroll, Chukwueze says to teammate Alex Iwobi, “I don’t like this weather [in Morocco], it’s like London.”
Iwobi asked Chukwueze, “But you like London?”
“My guy, with the weather in London, you can at least see the bright future,” the AC Milan loanee responded.
Nigeria has had a great start to the competition, defeating Tunisia and Tanzania to take the lead in Group C with six points.
