Support for Soldiers’ Families: Army to Sponsor Education for Fallen Soldiers’ Children

As part of its educational sponsorship program for the 2025–2026 school year, the Nigerian Army has launched a statewide verification and screening exercise for children of fallen servicemen.

A message on the Nigerian Army’s official X feed on Thursday stated that the drill will take place between February and March 2026 in the six geopolitical zones.

“One of the Nigerian Army’s welfare programs, the sponsorship ensures primary, secondary, and tertiary education for the children of personnel who lost their lives while serving,” the announcement stated.

The South-South zone exercise will take place in Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from February 23 to 26, 2026, according to the announcement.
Verification for the South-East will be held at Headquarters, 82 Division, Enugu, Enugu State, from February 28 to March 3, 2026, and the South-West exercise will be held at Headquarters, 82 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State, from March 5 to 8, 2026.

The Army states that the North-East screening will take place at the Nigerian Army Armour Corps Headquarters in Bauchi, Bauchi State, from March 11 to 14, 2026. From March 16–20, 2026, the exercise will take place in the North-West at the Headquarters of the 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
It stated that the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja, will host the North Central zone and Federal Capital Territory exercise from March 23 to 27, 2026.

The Army advised candidates to bring all required paperwork for the screening process.

“A handwritten letter of application containing the children’s names, admission letter (including JAMB admission letter, if applicable), last school report card or results, letter of confirmation of pupil or studentship, birth certificates, and Part II orders of birth are required of applicants,” the notice stated.

The statement went on to say, “Other required documents include the deceased personnel’s death certificate and Part II order of death, condolence letter, Notification of Casualty, two recent passport photos of the deceased officer or soldier and the beneficiary, account number details, telephone number, school fee receipt, Bank Verification Number, and a first-page printout of the bank statement showing account name and number.”
