In Nekede, Owerri West LGA, agents of the Imo State Police Command, working in tandem with the State Security Organization, have detained a suspected cultist and taken a gun from him.
Henry Okoye, a spokesman for the Command, stated that the arrest was made in response to reliable information about suspicious activity near Old Nekede Road early on March 21, 2026.
According to Okoye, the Operatives responded quickly to the intelligence, mobilizing to the area and capturing a 26-year-old man named Bright Chidi.
He was found to have one live cartridge and one locally manufactured single-barrel handgun.
The police spokeswoman implied that the suspect admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity, a cult organization connected to violent criminal activity in the area, after initial questioning.
He said that while efforts are being made to capture additional syndicate members, the case has been moved to the State Criminal investigative Department, or SCID, for investigative consolidation.
In order to improve public safety, Okoye continued, “CP Audu Garba Bosso, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a sustained intelligence-led crackdown on criminal elements across the state and urges residents to support the police and other security agencies with timely and credible information.”
