According to former presidential candidate Gbenga Hashim-Olawepo, the 10-year All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government in Nigeria was a catastrophe for the country’s economy.

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, Hashim-Olawepo made this statement on Wednesday in an interview with the Channels Television show “Politics Today.”

He claims that Nigeria’s GDP was higher twenty years ago, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo was leaving office, than it is now.

The lawmaker claimed that by the time previous President Goodluck Jonathan passed the reins to APC’s Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s economy was the largest in Africa; however, it was currently teetering between fourth and fifth places, a condition he called a catastrophe.

Nigeria’s GDP is currently between 220 and 230 billion. The International Monetary Fund’s and the World Bank’s prognosis supports that.

Nigeria’s GDP was 268 billion when former president Olusegun Obasanjo was leaving office in 2007, which is more than it is today.

“The APC was in charge of this catastrophe. Nigeria was the largest economy in Africa at the time of Goodluck Jonathan’s handover, with a GDP of 574 billion. It is the fourth of the fifth day.

He declared, “What has happened to the economy in ten years of APC government is disastrous and tragic.”
