Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says that President Bola Tinubu is not doing his job as Nigeria’s leader and is instead trying to destroy opposition parties in the country.
George said on Thursday that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are working together to make President Tinubu the only candidate for the 2027 general election.
The PDP leader used the story of Abimilech from the Bible as an example. He killed almost everyone and everything to become king.
He also said that God showed Abimelech and the people of Shechem that there is no one He made that He can’t handle.
The elder statesman told all leaders and elders, no matter what party they belonged to, to stand up and speak out against what was going on, which he called evil.
“They are willing to destroy all the basic principles, values, and ideas of democracy to get what they want.”
“You don’t give in to evil.” “You deal with evil,” he said.
George also yelled at the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, saying that he was defending the Electoral umpire for firing political party executives for technical reasons.
But he warned that everything people do will have consequences and that people won’t be in office forever.
“That’s it. This country must not go under. What do I want at 80 years old? In 1962, when the Western Region crisis started, I was in Form 4 in high school. I don’t think some of the people who are making things worse in politics today were born then. I’ve seen it all, whether it’s military or civilian. He said, “We can’t let this country go down.”
He also said that Nigeria is slowly falling apart because the leaders aren’t doing what people expect them to do. He said that Nigeria is too big to be controlled.
“We are firing the warning shot now.” A few greedy and selfish people can’t control Nigeria because it is too big. Look at how unsafe things are. This country is slowly falling apart. I don’t want to hear anything about outside factors or elements. People who are killing and kidnapping Nigerians all over the place are in this country. “Instead of the president, who is the Commander-in-Chief, dealing with these bloodthirsty maniacs, he is busy using INEC to destroy opposition parties,” he said.
INEC Has Gone Off Track
George said that INEC was letting the ruling party use it to destroy Nigeria’s democracy by working against the opposition.
He asked Nigerians not to let this happen.
“It’s too bad that the electoral body has become an undertaker, ordered by the ruling party to destroy this democracy.”
“Sadly, our courts are also going off course. I remember the great years when Justices Elias, Kayode Eso, Oputa, Belgore, Uwais, and others were on the court. The corruption in the courts today is terrible.
“Evil is a sign of injustice.” There is bad in the country right now. It’s clear that justice will always win over injustice. When you make good decisions, justice is served. It is unfair to use technicalities to make wrong judgments.
“Smart people listen to advice, but dumb people think they are always right.” God is in charge of everything. No matter what you become today, it won’t matter tomorrow. The only thing that will last forever is the good you do.
“Baba Awolowo died 39 years ago, but we still honor him today. Can we do the same thing for today’s leaders when they step down?
“Some judges are working with desperate politicians to destroy this democracy, which is sad. The blindfolded Lady of Justice, who is the symbol of the courts, is being affected by what they are doing. “They took away the sword and the scale,” he said.
Tinubu’s second term goal is getting in the way.
George said that President Tinubu was not doing enough to make the country safe and that he was only thinking about how to get back into power in 2027 while people were being killed.
“Nigerians are dying every day, and no one is taking responsibility for what is happening. The Commander-in-Chief is only making statements after each murder. They should have used the energy they are now using to destroy parties to deal with these criminals.
“You want to be the only person running for president in 2027 in Nigeria, which is a country with people of many cultures, religions, and races.” How can that be? We should support a democracy with many parties. “That is the spinal cord of participatory democracy,” George said.
