In the event that governors disregard the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy, President Bola Tinubu threatens to step in.
While speaking at the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday night in the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu gave the warning.
He emphasized that governors must abide by and respect the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy and that it continues to be the highest legal authority in the country.
“Give them their money straight; the Supreme Court has carved it out for you. I have the yam and the knife, so if you wait for my executive order, I will chop it.
We will calculate the percentage before FAAC, and I will forward it to their accounts. Simply said, I am showing my governors a great deal of respect and understanding.
“If you don’t begin implementing it FAAC after FAAC, you will see deduction from the source,” stated President Tinubu.
Tinubu instructed the National Assembly to call in the Inspector General of Police to investigate the implications of the State Police in order to establish controls and stop abuses.
