A truck carrying stone crashed over a driver’s Toyota saloon car at Eleko Junction on the Lekki–Ajah Expressway in Lagos State on Thursday morning, killing the driver and seriously injuring his wife.

The statement was signed by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department.

An articulated truck carrying a lot of granite and moving too fast from the Epe axis was apparently approaching Eleko Junction when it reportedly had a catastrophic brake failure, according to preliminary security briefings.

In part, the statement stated, “The truck’s mechanical failure caused an abrupt loss of vehicular control, causing it to career off its designated path and collide forcefully with a Toyota saloon car traveling from Ajah inward Epe.”
The truck overturned and crushed the smaller car, trapping the driver inside the debris, according to LASTMA.

The Federal Road Safety Corps and agency officials reportedly rescued the victims with the assistance of onlookers; however, the man was pronounced dead at the site, and his wife was critically injured and sent to the hospital immediately.

The truck driver left the scene of the collision right away, according to the agency, and Akodo Police Division officers secured the area while the rescue was underway.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, called the incident preventable, cautioned against irresponsible driving, and advised truck and car drivers to maintain their vehicles properly.
