The Kurawa hamlet in Sokoto State’s Sabon-Birni Local Government Area was allegedly attacked by armed bandits who were loyal to infamous kingpin Bello Turji.

It was discovered that on Wednesday night, the bandits broke into the Sokoto settlement, killing two locals and kidnapping eleven others.

Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist covering insecurity in northwest Nigeria, revealed the development in a post via 𝕏 on Thursday. The raid, which is the most recent in a string of violent incidents plaguing communities in Sokoto East Senatorial District, also claimed that two people were injured by the attackers.

Bakatsine claims that bandit gangs connected to the Bello Turji network still attack the area almost every day.

He continued by saying that while officials fight to stop the growing violence, locals are still stuck in a state of constant fear.

“SAD NEWS: Bello Turji-aligned armed bandits stormed the Kurawa community in Sabon-Birni LGA of Sokoto State last night, killing two people,” he tweeted. During the attack, they also kidnapped 11 people—10 women and 1 man—and injured two others.

Bandit gangs operating in the Sokoto East Senatorial territory, particularly those connected to the Bello Turji network, continue to target the territory almost every day. As officials fight to stop the violence, communities are still caught in a vicious cycle of terror.
