Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has urged Julius Abure and his supporters to run for office again in order to regain their leadership roles.
Abure and other candidates have the chance to run for the party’s chairmanship and other posts in the next national congress, according to the LP National Chairman.
She urged the resentful members to set aside their self-interests in order to pursue peace and the advancement of the political parties.
Julius Abure was dismissed as the National Chairman of the Labour Party in January by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In his decision, judge Peter Lifu referenced the Supreme Court’s 4 April 2025 ruling to deem Nenadi Usman, the former Finance Minister, the legitimate leader of the party.
Awaiting the Labour Party’s national convention, the court ruled that INEC must acknowledge the caretaker committee led by Usman as “the only valid authority to represent the Labour Party.”
However, Abure and his caretaker committee have declined to resign. They insisted that they still control the party in a statement released on Tuesday.
“I implore everyone to put the party’s interests ahead of their own. Usman remarked, “Come and let’s work together,” at a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders summit held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday with the theme Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political influence.
“And go run for office if you firmly believe that you must hold any position in the party congresses.”
“You will be proclaimed the victor and take over as the party’s leader or for whatever role you are running for.”
