The African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) factional national chairman, Nafiu Bala, has attested to being present when David Mark’s interim leadership took office in July 2025.

With two factions headed by Mark and Bala, it marked the start of ADC’s internal conflict.

INEC declared on Wednesday that it will not recognize either group in response to a March 12 Court of Appeal decision.

Social media was inundated with videos of Bala at the ADC meeting on Monday.

However, Bala said in a statement on Tuesday that no agreement was reached to select Mark during the meeting.

“After being given the opportunity to speak, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, the former National Chairman, shocked everyone by announcing his resignation as National Chairman,” Bala stated.

“Sen. David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola were then given membership cards and designated as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary.”

Articles 8(2) and 9(4) of the 2022 modified ADC Constitution, according to Bala, were violated by Nwosu’s activities.

Additionally, he stated that the constitution prohibits an outgoing chairman from selecting a successor.
