Olabode George, a former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the president of working with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to destroy the PDP prior to the general elections in 2027.
In an interview with reporters in Lagos, George reportedly stated that Wike’s actions are turning into a total embarrassment and a source of shame for Nigerians.
He urged Tinubu to summon Wike to order, emphasizing that the INEC is aware that Wike and others lack the right to organize a national convention in the name of the PDP, but the President is the one controlling the entire scenario.
“This is not Wike’s administration, but Tinubu’s,” he declared. Nigerians are watching from the east to the west, from the north to the south. There will be unpleasant repercussions if a crisis arises. You don’t want anyone to run against you in 2027, even though you identify as Democratic. That’s done by who? Is the Republic of Nigeria a banana?
“How much time? Nigerians are aware of the reality, which has resulted in a cemetery silence around the nation. For the decent people of this nation, Wike’s actions are becoming a total embarrassment and a source of shame. Speaking as though he is the Commander-in-Chief is just insanity.
“Wike cannot possibly be acting in such a power-drunk manner without Mr. President’s support. The president’s continued tolerance of Wike’s actions demonstrates his poor historical comprehension.
“Everyone recalls the cover that Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa gave to some of the characters used in the First Republic to destroy that era, but nobody talks about them again.”
“Mr. President, you will be the only one carrying your cross when things become tough. The way Wike is handling your alleged adversaries and attempting to dismantle opposition parties may make you pleased right now, but the outcome won’t be pleasant.
“The entire continent of Africa will be impacted by any catastrophe in Nigeria. Where are the anti-democracy forces that brought down the first, second, and third republics now? With someone like Wike, I hope Nigeria doesn’t blow up.
“I can reassure the President, INEC, and the Judiciary that Nigeria is larger than them and that Nigerians will no longer put up with this blatant nonsense from this power-drunk Minister who wasn’t even born when the Western Region crisis began in 1962.”
George added that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the presidency, and Wike are committing a grave error and compared the scenario to the biblical voice of Jacob and the hand of Esau.
“They mistakenly believe that PDP’s approach to normalcy and constitutionalism is stupid,” he said. Nigeria has made us cool, collected, and peaceful. These individuals are violating the Constitution in every way. Nigerians are not ignorant people. They’re keeping an eye.
“You can see the hand of APC and Presidency in every crisis across political parties,” the senior statesman asserted, insisting that Wike was no longer a PDP member. In 2027, they do not want Bola Tinubu to face off against a presidential candidate from another party. It’s a waste of time.
According to Wike, he is in charge of a PDP faction. What faction? He no longer belongs to our party. In November of last year, he was dismissed from our convention in Ibadan. There were others besides him. He and other characters were banished together. They have been expelled as of right now. Therefore, deploying Federal Government agents to intimidate Nigerians from Abuja to Rivers while pretending to be speaking on behalf of a PDP group is absurd. We no longer have him as a member.
