Alhaji Munnir Haidara, the chairman of the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has accused Sadiq Chiroma, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region, of sabotaging the party even before he formally defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Following Chiroma’s defection, Haidara made the assertion in a statement released on Sunday.
Haidara claims that Chiroma’s behavior prior to and following the most recent state assembly bye-election created grave questions about his commitment.
He said that the previous PDP chairman was “frequently seen secretly interacting with APC stakeholders in the state,” characterizing these interactions as blatantly against the PDP’s constitution.
Haidara further asserted that Chiroma openly opposed the party’s chances of winning the bye-election and disclosed secret party tactics.
The chairman of Kaura-Namoda also connected Chiroma’s purported influence to the recent defection of Mohammed Lawal Kurya Madaro, the PDP’s previous state assembly candidate.
He said that long before Chiroma left, the party was fully informed of his “anti-party activities.”
According to Haidara, the PDP in Kaura-Namoda is still grateful for Governor Dauda Lawal’s “people-oriented projects” in the region and encouraged locals to support ongoing development projects.
After Chiroma defected to the APC, he warned that he would “reap what he sowed” and wished him well in his new party.
