Farouk Aliyu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has said the party is ready to handle grievances that may arise from its candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 elections.

Aliyu who spoke on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday said some aspirants will be disappointed after the party’s primaries and consensus arrangements.

But he called on aggrieved members to stay loyal to the party, stating that party leaders would continue to dialogue with and appease dissatisfied aspirants through dialogue, promises and possible appointments.

“And so, we don’t have the luxury of choosing the candidates; it is a product of wider consultations. The governors might not always have the final say on who becomes the candidate of the party,” he said.

The party would adopt consensus arrangements where possible and direct primaries would be conducted in areas where consensus could not be reached, Aliyu said.

“There will be broken hearts of course,” he said. Of course there is an ambition. If you don’t get it you probably get your heart broke

Then if you are a true party man if the general opinion of the leaders of the party is candidate ‘A’ go for it. And if you don’t want to go for that, go for the election.

“Yes, there are some places where people were promised but then politics is dynamic. One thing today, other thing tomorrow.

“So where somebody is promised a ticket, even the governor promised a ticket, at the end of the day you will find out that even the governor there are certain things he cannot do because there are other stakeholders that are more important than a governor in the state.

“Even within our own party, where the leaders in their wisdom have decided let’s go through consensus. Where there is no consensus, we go to direct primaries.”

‘So I’m saying to you we are ready. We are good to go. And of course, where the hearts are broken, we will try to mend them with good words, promises, also appointments and so on. The party has mechanisms in trying to appease those whose hearts are going to be broken.”
