Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham has recounted her financial struggles during the early days of her acting career.

The 43-year-old movie producer admitted that she has spent about 25 years in the Nigerian film industry, but has only started making serious money about eight years ago.

On her financial journey, Abraham said she entered the industry in 2001 but for many years made very little money.

“I just began to make money. I’ve been in the industry for about 25 years now, since 2001. I started making money I don’t think it’s been 8 years. “But then I was making it, but it was peanuts, just what to eat.

She said she was lucky to make enough money in the early days of acting to get by.

Despite the early difficulties, the actress has grown to be one of the most successful filmmaker of Nollywood. The film Oversabi Aunty achieved a significant milestone in January 2026 as it grossed over N1 billion at the box office. It was the first Nollywood debut director to gross N1 billion, a record in the industry. It is the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time.
