A chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, has reportedly been abducted along with two other persons in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
It was said that Fabiyi was kidnapped along with a driver and another associate while on their way to deliver ransom and other items for the release of an earlier kidnap victim.
Sources said the team was conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice when they were ambushed by armed men in the area.
The ransom delivery was allegedly connected to attempts to obtain the release of a victim who had been kidnapped earlier in the community.
The earlier victim was allegedly killed by the kidnappers before the ransom team arrived, but those sent to deliver the items were unaware of the development, a source familiar with the incident was quoted as saying.
Reports said the abductors led the team into a forested route linking Kwara and Kogi states where they seized them at gun point.
The incident was not reported to security agencies immediately, it was learnt.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, when contacted, said the command was yet to be formally informed of any kidnapping involving an OPC member as at the time of inquiry.
He said the police would look into it once they receive an official report.
