2027 Poll: INEC Reinstates Three Delta, One Kogi Assembly Constituencies

Four State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states have been restored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the 2027 general election.

The move follows court rulings ordering the electoral commission to reinstate the constituencies that had been previously suppressed.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said this in a statement issued on Friday.

In Delta, the three restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II. In Kogi State, Yagba West II has been restored.

The commission said political parties will conduct primaries for candidates to contest the restored seats between August 21 and 25, 2026.

INEC stated that the exercise is within the same period scheduled for primaries for other forthcoming bye-elections across the country.

The elections in the constituencies affected are to be held on 19 September 2026.

The commission called on political parties seeking to hold primaries for the revived constituencies to submit the required notices ahead of their respective dates.

INEC also said all other activities and timelines in its earlier released timetable for the 2027 general election would be applicable to the restored constituencies.

The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
