Four State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states have been restored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The move comes after court rulings directing the electoral commission to restore the constituencies that had earlier been suppressed.

This was contained in a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, on Friday.

In Delta, three constituencies restored are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II. In Kogi State, Yagba West II is restored.

The commission said political parties will hold primaries for candidates to contest the restored seats between August 21 and 25, 2026.

INEC said the exercise is within the same period slated for primaries for other upcoming bye-elections across the country.

The elections in the affected constituencies are to be held on 19 September 2026.

The commission urged political parties intending to conduct primaries for the revived constituencies to submit the requisite notices in advance of their respective dates.

INEC also said all other activities and timelines in its earlier released timetable for the 2027 general election would apply to the restored constituencies.

The electoral body reiterated its commitment to holding credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
