The brutal murder of retired High Court Judge Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose tied body was found in her Asaba home on November 24, 2025, has prompted the Delta State Police Command to launch a thorough homicide investigation.
The crime was discovered when the deceased’s brother went to her house and discovered her lifeless body in the living room, according to police authorities.
Her lips, legs, and wrists were allegedly bound. The body was taken from the home and placed at the mortuary for an autopsy after the Divisional Police Officer of “A” Division, Asaba, led the officers there upon receiving the report.
While Godwin Vanem, the main suspect, escaped the scene and is still at large, police reported that one suspect, Lucky Matthew, had been taken into custody.
According to police sources, preliminary investigations indicate that Vanem “is suspected to have committed the dastardly act and fled the apartment,” which has sparked a vigorous manhunt.
The State Criminal inquiry Department (Homicide Section) has been tasked with conducting what the command refers to as a “discreet and thorough investigation,” under the instruction of Delta State Police Commissioner CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
CP Assures Justice and Offers Compassion to Family
The Commissioner of Police expressed sympathy to the late jurist’s family and said that the command would see to it that justice was done, according to a statement released on Sunday, November 30, by SP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer.
The statement stated, “On behalf of the command, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, offers condolences to the family of the deceased and guarantees them justice.”
The command advised anyone with information that could help with the investigation or help apprehend the fugitive suspect to call the police at 08036684974, 08114895600, or 08025666914.
