Nigerian gospel musician Laolu Gbenjo has urged the public to stop spreading unverified claims about the death of fellow gospel singer Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, warning that the controversy surrounding the incident could escalate unnecessarily.
Gbenjo made the appeal on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of the deceased in Ibadan, Oyo State. His remarks come amid reports of disagreements among family members over the circumstances surrounding Toluwanisings’ death and arrangements for his burial.
The singer expressed concern that the situation could develop into a prolonged public controversy similar to the events surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Speaking about the late musician, Gbenjo described him as a committed Christian who loved God and maintained cordial relationships with those around him.
He said Toluwanisings was known for his good character and dedication to his faith, adding that his memory should not be overshadowed by speculation and online disputes.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop,” Gbenjo stated.
He also criticised the spread of discussions about the matter on social media platforms, particularly TikTok and Instagram, urging users to exercise restraint.
In a related development, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against people allegedly associating them with Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba shared a public notice on his Instagram page on Sunday, outlining the comedians’ position.
The notice, issued through their solicitors, Gemgold, warned against the publication or circulation of allegations described as false and defamatory. It maintained that such claims could harm the entertainers’ reputations.
The dispute continues to draw attention as calls grow for responsible public commentary while the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death remain a subject of concern.
