Former Governor Appeals for Bayelsa Support for NDC

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Dickson, has urged residents of the state to support the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general elections.

Dickson made the appeal during his homecoming visit to Toru-Orua community in Sagbama Local Government Area, where he urged residents to vote for all candidates of the party.

The former governor expressed confidence in the NDC’s electoral prospects, saying the party would prioritise the development needs of Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

He highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, greater regional representation in federal appointments and policies that would promote inclusive development.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ rally in Yenagoa, Dickson also pledged to work with Obi to ensure the execution of the proposed Agge Seaport project if the NDC wins the 2027 presidential election.

He described the project as important to Bayelsa’s economic development and promised that the party would unveil its development plans for the state during the official election campaigns.

Dickson also expressed dissatisfaction with Governor Douye Diri’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but urged his supporters to remain peaceful, describing the governor as his brother despite their political differences.

He called on party members to mobilise support across their communities and urged relevant authorities to ensure credible elections, free from intimidation and unlawful interference.

The visit featured the commissioning of the NDC state secretariat in Yenagoa and a traditional Ijaw boat regatta in Toru-Orua. Obi and other party leaders attended the events, which celebrated Dickson’s homecoming and showcased the cultural heritage of the Ijaw people.
