The different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government have been charged by Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah with achieving the N870 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target outlined in the state’s 2026 budget.

The governor pointed out that, given the current geopolitical unrest worldwide, external revenue sources like the Federal Account allotment Committee (FAAC) allotment are unpredictable.

In order to formally begin work in all government agencies in the new year, Mbah gave the order on Monday during a Holy Mass at the Government House Chapel.

He stated that the state shouldn’t let itself be caught off guard in light of world events.

Recall that Mbah recently signed a record-breaking N1.62 trillion 2026 budget, which he clarified would be financed by an expected N870 billion IGR, N387 billion FAAC allocation, and N329 billion capital receipts.

Speaking at the Holy Mass attended by heads and members of the three arms of government, political office holders, business captains, traditional rulers, and other important stakeholders, he urged all civil servants and political appointees to step up their efforts, pointing out that the projected IGR may result from the caliber of services they provide to the state’s citizens and businesses.

It won’t be simple given all the geopolitical unrest throughout the world, especially in light of our revenue forecasts. We simply don’t know for sure where things will go.

“It is crucial that we achieve the domestic revenue target we set for ourselves this year so that we can then absorb the shock caused by all of these geopolitical tensions around the world.”

“To understand that projection is a result of doing your own part.” All of the MDAs have lofty revenue goals. The speed and caliber of services you provide determine how much money we make. “Let’s reenergize ourselves to contribute and fulfill our individual roles,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of commitment and teamwork among the state’s public servants in 2026, characterizing them as the catalyst for the administration’s success or failure in the upcoming year.

Importantly, as Permanent Secretaries and public officials, we will continue to rely on your support.

“No matter how successful we are, you are the engine room,” we have always stated. This year, we must work even harder. The small things we do, like arriving at work on time, processing paperwork quickly, and ensuring that we contribute to the overall scheme of things, are quite important.

We must also keep advocating for collaboration. In essence, we must recognize that we are only as good as our weakest connection. We must help one another since we are all striving toward the same goal, which is to serve the people,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the state’s citizens and the church for their unwavering support, wise guidance, and prayers while emphasizing the importance of unrestricted and unfiltered comments.

We don’t think we’re flawless. Our desire to provide the best possible service to the public is what we stand for. This is why it’s crucial to give us honest feedback and hold us accountable,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh, the chaplain of the Government House Chapel, characterized Governor Mbah as a servant leader who is sincerely committed to the welfare of his people in his homily.

Citing thousands of finished and ongoing projects as well as reforms started by the Mbah Administration, he claimed that only a leader with a strong desire to serve his people and create a brighter future for the state’s children and future generations could have done so.

High-profile government officials attended the Holy Mass, including Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the deputy governor; Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, the speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly; Justice Afojulu Ozoemena, the chief judge of Enugu State; and HRM Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, the chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.
