Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, has addressed rumors that Vice President Kashim Shettima would be removed as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.
Morka reportedly said that Shettima’s potential replacement was hypothetical due to Tinubu’s political trajectory as Lagos State’s governor during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday.
Morka clarified that the party supports the Vice President in addition to President Tinubu for a second term.
“When the time comes, the position of Vice President is liable to discussions at the party level for decisions as to who becomes Vice President,” he stated.
Therefore, in my opinion, endorsing the President also means endorsing the current Vice President, regardless of whether his name appears on the ballot, since the President is the one who is running for office.
Because it’s a shared ticket, it’s difficult to just presume and state so. As governor, the president has previously been recognized and has had the chance to replace his deputies.
Therefore, it doesn’t deviate from current trends or his previous actions. However, that’s precisely why everything is highly hypothetical.
