Borno Ambush: Boko Haram Kills Newly Promoted Lieutenant Colonel, Six Soldiers

According to reports, Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State have killed six people, including a recently promoted Lieutenant Colonel.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, insurgents attacked a group of soldiers led by a Lieutenant Colonel named Mohammed from Maiduguri to Damasak in the Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, according to Sahara Reporters.

According to military officials, the terrorists utilized heavy gunfire and explosives.

In addition to the deceased bodies that were found, numerous additional soldiers suffered severe injuries, and an unknown number of men are still unaccounted for.

Seven soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel who had just been promoted from Major, were killed in an ambush on January 26, 2026, while troops were traveling from Maiduguri to Damasak in the Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The Lieutenant Colonel, who was their Commander, mobilized them for surveillance after learning that the terrorists were active in the region. On their route, though, they were ambushed.

“The 7 Division Hospital currently houses their bodies. The late commander’s phone was stolen by the terrorists. Later, Boko Haram militants answered his line when senior officers called it, according to a source cited by SaharaReporters.

In Northeastern Nigeria, Boko Haram and its branch, Islamic State West Africa Province, have slaughtered thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes.
