The well-known media figure Morayo Afolabi Brown revealed that she had no intention of becoming a show host when discussing her surprising journey into television.

She reportedly revealed this when discussing her early hardships, professional difficulties, and eventual ascent in broadcasting during her speech at the Refire Conference.

Morayo clarified that she had intended to operate in the background rather than in front of the camera.

She claimed that she struggled with stammering and doubted her capacity to communicate clearly.

She claims that the plan at the time was to find a different anchor, so she brought in Joy Isi Bewaji, who at the time was concentrating on her writing and went on to become well-known for her work.

Just before the event was about to go live, though, things took an unexpected turn. The production team found themselves in a challenging situation when the designated host left to concentrate on writing. Morayo was forced to present the show herself despite her anxieties and lack of confidence because she had little time to prepare.

That, she claimed, was the beginning of her career as a television host, and as time went on, the program attracted more viewers.

Television Continental (TVC) fired her years later, which presented her with yet another obstacle. She was irritated by the choice, yet she did not leave quietly. Refusing to back down, she insisted on her contributions to the platform’s expansion.

She was reinstated after several days of uncertainty, albeit in a lesser capacity. She stayed dedicated to her profession and kept working on her presentation in spite of the setback.

Morayo left TVC in 2019, however she stayed on as a contract employee and continued to run her show. She was able to gain a leadership position as a Managing Director by 2023, which at first she considered to be a career turning point. She claimed, however, that she did not feel the fulfillment she had anticipated from the job.

Her pivotal moment occurred when she created a novel television idea and presented it to a possible business partner, who funded it with 100 million naira. She was forced to take a risky move and think back on her journey at this point.

Ultimately, she made the decision to quit her job and concentrate on starting her own business. The Morayo Show, her own program, was born out of that choice.

“A few years later, TVC fired me. I was upset and had to fight for my job,” she stated. They rehired me after five days, but this time I was demoted. I continued to perform as a contract employee even after I resigned in 2019. I felt like I had finally succeeded when I got an MD in 2023, but I wasn’t satisfied.

“Someone gave me 100 million naira after I wrote a TV show concept.” I had to ask myself if I could handle this on my own, and I realized it was time to go. I made the decision to seize the opportunity and begin anew. Even now, every day is fresh, and we are constantly wondering how to improve it. God has already placed something inside of you, and he brings everything together to make it come out.
