According to Alwan Hassan, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Tinubu is not genuinely liked by the majority of ministers and governors.

During an appearance on Channels TV’s “Sunrise Daily” breakfast show on Tuesday, he said that the majority of the ruling party’s politicians are drawn to him due to his influence.

He believes that the opposition parties may not pose the greatest threat to President Tinubu’s reelection, but rather the ruling APC.

“Many of our party’s (APC) governors and ministers do not have President Tinubu in their hearts.” They want him for what he is; they don’t like him for who he is.”

Hassan stated that he was extremely concerned by the behavior of several powerful members of the ruling party, pointing out that rather than showing loyalty or devotion to Tinubu’s leadership, their acts show a pattern of political opportunism.

He maintained that the president was surrounded by individuals who were more concerned with their own interests and political advantages than with actually assisting his administration or guaranteeing his political success.

When he considers the upcoming election, Hassan stated that this internal mindset is what scares him the most, emphasizing that any significant defeat Tinubu would experience could result from sabotage by people closest to him.

Hassan responded, “It is our own self and the way we treat our own people that is making me scared of the election,” when asked if ADC posed a threat to the APC in the 2027 elections. Sabotage will come from within.

Hassan compared the political developments that resulted in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s fall in 2015 to the warning indicators that were starting to appear within the APC.

He noted that Jonathan’s downfall was facilitated by a network of inside political players and sympathizers as well as external opponents.

The same thing happened to Jonathan as well. We used many of Jonathan’s supporters to defeat him in elections. “That’s exactly what’s happening right now,” he remarked.
