The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says that more than 3,000 delegates are expected to come to its national convention in Abuja on April 14. The party is still getting ready for the event, even though it has been hard to find the right venues.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, told Punch that the government was making it hard for them to use Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome for the event.

Abdullahi said that the party was expecting thousands of delegates from all over the country to come to the convention.

More than 3,000 delegates are expected to come to the national convention. He said, “So, we are expecting more than 3,000 delegates to the ADC national convention.”

He said that the convention would now take place at the Rainbow Hotel in Abuja, even though there were problems.

“Our party leaders, supporters, and members from all over the country will come together for a free, fair, and honest national convention.” He went on to say that the convention would take place at the Rainbow Hotel in Abuja on April 14.

The ADC spokesperson said that the government had ignored the party’s request to use Eagle Square, a place where political parties usually hold big conventions.

“We sent letters asking to use Eagle Square. They haven’t answered our letter yet. Abdullahi said, “They just don’t care about us.”

He also said that the party later went to the management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, where the Peoples Democratic Party had its convention before, but they were told that there was a cycling championship planned for the venue.

“They were working with us until they suddenly told us that there was going to be a cycling championship at the venue,” he said.

Abdullahi called the event part of what he called a “assault on opposition leaders and their political parties.”

“Is one party bigger than the other?” Yes, we are a political party that is against the government. He asked, “But does the APC own Eagle Square?”

Ward, State Congresses Peaceful – ADC
Abdullahi also said in a different statement that the party’s ward and state congresses went smoothly all over the country.

He congratulated the newly elected state executives and chairmen and said that the election showed that the party was committed to democracy within its own ranks.

He said, “These elections, which were held in accordance with the law and the party’s constitution, show the ADC’s long-term commitment to internal democracy, openness, and the rule of law.”

He also said that the National Working Committee would let people know when the new officials would be sworn in, which would be on May 12, 2026, or later.

The party puts out a list of convention committee members.
As part of getting ready for the national convention, the ADC has also put out new lists of its convention committee and subcommittees.

The new list, which was signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, said that Liyel Imoke, the former governor of Cross River State, would be the chairman of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee. Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, would be the deputy.

Since 2025, when the ADC was chosen as a coalition platform and a new National Working Committee was formed with former Senate President David Mark in charge, the party has been in a long leadership crisis.

There was a disagreement over the length of time that former chairman Ralph Nwosu held the job and claims by his deputy, Nafiu Bala Gombe, to be acting chairman.

The crisis has led to a number of lawsuits and made people worry about the party’s ability to win the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently took Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola off its official records, which made the disagreement even worse.
