Reuben Abati, a veteran journalist and former media aide to the president, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent comments about former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Abati, who spoke on Arise News on Friday, said that it is rude and unfair for Atiku to call Jonathan inexperienced.
It was brought up that Atiku called former President Goodluck Jonathan a good but inexperienced man during an interview on TV on Wednesday.
Atiku says that Jonathan’s lack of experience played a big part in his failure as president and his loss in the 2015 presidential election.
He said, “I know Goodluck Jonathan very well. He is a good young man, but he is also inexperienced, which is why he failed to run the country.”
He made the submission while arguing for experienced and capable leaders to run Nigeria and why people like him should be elected to office.
In response to Atiku’s statement, Abati made fun of the former Vice President, saying that Jonathan has been president for thirty years, which is what Atiku has wanted to be for thirty years.
“I think it’s rude and condescending.” Atiku never even got to be president of this country, but Jonathan was. Thirty years after he first wanted to get there, he is still trying to get there. And calling a former president a man who is not experienced is a sign of arrogance.
Abati said, “No matter what happens in the 2027 elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar still wants to be what former President Jonathan has already done and even more after he has been in that position.”
