Prof. Udenta Udenta, a fellow at the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, says that Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, should not be held in detention forever while an investigation is going on.
Udenta said this on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” show, when he was asked questions.
He said they should leave El-Rufai alone and that the former governor should be assumed innocent. He also said that they could investigate him without him being in jail.
The professor also said that they could take El-Rufai’s passport and keep him from moving around.
“You can’t keep a man in jail forever while you investigate. “That’s not fair,” he said.
Reports say that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has had El-Rufai in custody since he got back from Egypt.
He was charged with wiretapping the office of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), and then he was taken to another court in Kaduna State.
