Julius Abure, the Labour Party’s Factional National Chairman, has blamed Peter Obi, the party’s former presidential candidate, and Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, for the party’s problems.
On Wednesday, Abure made the claim on Arise Television.
He said that the party’s problems began when Peter Obi and Otti went to Umuahia to form a caretaker committee.
“I want to make it very clear that Peter Obi and Alex Otti caused the party’s problems.” Under my leadership, the party was easily moving and sailing; it was acting as the opposition. The party’s problems really started when Peter Obi and Alex Otti went to Umuahia to set up a committee to take care of things. I didn’t make that. I didn’t make the problem. I brought people together in the party and helped it grow. I built the party up from nothing to what it is now. Peter Obi joined the party because of the leadership we showed him. So, Alex Otti and Peter Obi went to Umuahia and started a faction in the party. That’s where we are now. He said, “So, for me, you have seen that he has become a rolling stone that is hard to gather moss.”
Abure said that he got a new mandate before the deadline, even though people said that his time as leader would end in 2024.
“The term didn’t end.” The term was set to end on June 9, 2024. “And before the end of their term, on March 27, 2024, a new national convention was held, and the current leadership came out of it,” he said.
