Jeremiah Umaru, who represents the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in protest against the manner the party conducted its just concluded primary elections.

Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, announced his resignation in a letter to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The lawmaker said in a May 28, 2026 letter that the events around the party’s primary elections had disillusioned him and he could no longer continue his political journey with the ruling party.

He said he was concerned about what he called the slow chipping away at the values of fairness, transparency, justice and internal democracy which he said were the bedrock upon which many members joined and worked for the party’s growth.

The developments that marked the primary election process, he said, eroded his faith in the party’s commitment to credible and inclusive democratic practices significantly.

The federal lawmaker said, as a loyal member who has put in a lot of time, effort and resources to build the APC, it is painful to witness what he called the rising trend of imposition, manipulation and disregard for the collective wishes of party members.

He said the key experiences made him believe the party was straying from the principles that inspired the confidence and commitment of its supporters.

In good conscience, I can no longer be part of a system that does not uphold fairness, credibility and respect for the aspirations of dedicated members,” he said.

Despite his decision to leave the APC, Umaru thanked party members, leaders and associates with whom he worked during his years in the party.

He also thanked the opportunities and experiences gained while serving under the platform and wished well to members who remain dedicated to advancing the democratic ideals within the party.

His resignation is among the many defections and political realignments that have occurred in Nasarawa State after the conclusion of party primaries in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
