Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, unveiled a comprehensive socio-economic recovery agenda for Nigeria over the weekend. He promised extensive reforms in the areas of employment, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and industrial development.

At the SDP national convention in Bauchi, Adebayo emerged as the party’s consensus presidential candidate. He declared that if elected, his administration would pursue what he called a “people-centered government” with the goals of lowering poverty, boosting public confidence, and rebuilding the country’s productive capacity.

Soon after his election, the SDP standard-bearer addressed party delegates and supporters, announcing that his government would launch over 500 programs aimed at addressing issues including unemployment, insecurity, inadequate healthcare, deteriorating infrastructure, and general economic suffering.

He said that an SDP government’s top objective would be to reduce poverty.

“The mandate you have given me today will be used to articulate over 500 programs that will reduce poverty in Nigeria to 2% in the first 18 months of our administration,” he said.

Additionally, Adebayo pledged to engage millions of Nigerians in productive economic sectors by implementing a nationwide jobs and public works project that will lower unemployment to 4% within two years.

Infrastructure development, industrial recovery, manufacturing, agriculture, and small businesses nationwide would be the program’s main priority, he stated.

Regarding education, the SDP candidate emphasized that education should continue until graduates are employable and promised free and mandatory education from kindergarten to tertiary level.

Until you find employment, we will continue to educate you. “You haven’t graduated until you find employment,” he stated.

He went on to say that the planned education and employment initiatives would cooperate to give young Nigerians a smooth transition from school to the workforce.

In the healthcare industry, Adebayo pledged to provide everyone with access to reasonably priced medical treatment via a system connected to the National Identification Number (NIN).

He claims that under the SDP healthcare plan, every Nigerian would be eligible for four free medical exams each year.

“Your NIN will also become your health insurance number,” he stated, adding that a significant portion of his administration’s health policy would focus on preventive treatment.

Ajaokuta Steel Company, refineries, paper mills, and textile plants are just a few of the public companies and industries that the SDP candidate promises to revitalize nationwide.

According to him, the resurrection of regional businesses would boost employment, boost economic expansion, and lessen reliance on imports.

Adebayo also pledged to expand industry throughout all of the federation’s states, including the creation and revitalization of manufacturing, carpentry, textile, and cement hubs that might boost regional economies and raise living standards.

He criticized the way the current administration handled the economy, claiming that the savings from subsidies had not significantly improved the lives of many Nigerians.

He claimed that the nation’s problems had gotten worse due to corruption, inconsistent policy, and bad economic management.

The SDP presidential candidate also emphasized the necessity of more powerful state governments, autonomous legislatures, and efficient local government management, contending that successful sub-national institutions are the only way to eradicate poverty and promote grassroots growth.

In advance of the 2027 elections, he insisted that the SDP was providing Nigerians with a workable option that prioritized welfare, accountability, and national progress.
