Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, won the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue North East Senatorial primary, which was held in nine of the district’s Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The LGAs include Konshisha, Ukum, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Kwande Ushongo, and Vandeikya.
With 131,083 votes, Suswam defeated his six opponents, including the incumbent Senator Emmanuel Udende, who received 1,364 votes overall, and Cephas Tushima, his closest challenger, who received 4424.

Senator Titus Zam, the current senator from Benue North West, lost his reelection ticket in the recently concluded primaries.

Chief John Ihembe, the election’s Returning Officer, stated that the poll was held in seven Local Government Areas: Buruku, Gwer East, Gwer West, Guma, Gboko, Tarka, and Makurdi.
Benjamin Aber, a former Custom Officer and the spouse of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), defeated Titus Zam, the incumbent, with 93,412 votes in the hotly contested race in Zone B.

Sabiu Saidu, the chairman of the National Assembly Primary poll Committee, announced the results at the APC Secretariat in Makurdi on Tuesday. He stated that the poll was free, fair, and peaceful.

Saidu stated that Mr. Gabriel Suswam and Mr. Benjamin Aber, who received the most votes, were the winners of the election.

“Their declaration is dated today, May 19, 2026, signed by me, the electoral returning officer, Sabiu Saidu Mahuta,” he stated.

The outcome of the primaries held in the Benue South Senatorial District was still pending as of the filing of this report.
