Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has said that Edo State will now be a major focus in the campaign for improved treatment and recognition of Ijaw people.
He reportedly said this at the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide Manifesto Presentation and Debate, which was held in Degema, Rivers State, an event that was associated with Ijaw Youth Council.
Dokubo expressed concern on the plight of Ijaw communities in Edo State, saying that the living conditions and treatment of the people require more attention from leaders and stakeholders.
The traditional ruler said the focus should now be shifted beyond Rivers State as part of wider efforts that affect Ijaw people in various parts of the Niger Delta.
He also told the group members that their mission is based on a clear purpose and should not be treated as entertainment or social activity.
He urged them to remain dedicated to the movement’s aims and to keep fighting for its objectives.
“Our next battleground is Edo State. “We cannot let the Ijaws in Edo State to continue to be in the state that they are. This organisation was not created for fun, was not created for these sort of things. “We don’t create this organisation for these fine fine things,” Dokubo said.
