Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, popularly known as Bovi, has generated fresh reactions from football fans after he joined the age-long debate on who is the better footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
On his Instagram page on Wednesday, Bovi shared a video in which he jokingly advised people to be careful about going into business partnerships with anyone who insists that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi.
‘Ask Them What Their Favourite Footballer Is’
The comedian said that where you stand in the Messi-Ronaldo debate can be a litmus test for how you view facts and reality, particularly when money and trust are involved.
“If you want to do business with someone you don’t know so well and you’re going to invest your money together, ask the person who his favourite footballer is.
‘If he says Ronaldo you might still want to do business with him. “That’s fine if he says Ronaldo is his GOAT. But ask him between Ronaldo and Messi who is the better footballer. “If he says matter-of-factly that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi, pick up your shoes and run,” Bovi said.
Bovi: ‘Don’t Alter Reality’
The comedian said there’s nothing wrong with anyone having Ronaldo as a favourite player or even thinking of him as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
But he claimed that saying the Portuguese star is a better footballer than Messi with a lot of confidence is a red flag.
He said that people who believe this way tend to “change reality” to fit their own beliefs regardless of what facts or evidence might exist.
This way of thinking could go beyond football disputes and spill over into business transactions, because the person might distort clear facts to fit a desired story, he said.
Since Bovi’s comments, a debate has ensued on social media with fans of both players arguing again about the superiority of Messi and Ronaldo.
For more than ten years, the rivalry between the Argentinian and the Portuguese has dominated football discussions, with both players being considered two of the greatest footballers ever.
