When suspected armed herdsmen raided Efeyi village in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, several locals are said to have died.
According to local reports, the early-morning attack claimed the lives of over ten persons and injured numerous more.
Young people in the town started looking in the surrounding shrubs and regions after an unknown number of persons were reported missing.
According to locals, the attackers broke into the community just as farmers were getting ready to leave for their farms.
Many neighbors were reportedly forced to escape for safety when the terrorists began fire indiscriminately.
“On Tuesday morning, the attackers broke into the village and began shooting at whomever they came across. Many people are still unaccounted for, and at least ten people were killed, according to a local source.

As of the time this news was filed, the authorities had not yet verified the number of casualties.
Following the attack, local adolescents reportedly started looking for others who were still missing.
Although the number and condition of the injured citizens could not be immediately verified, it is also stated that some of them were sent for medical attention.
Concerns about frequent attacks on Benue State’s rural areas, where armed groups have recently slain locals and uprooted families, were raised by the occurrence.
Leadership claims that attempts to get a response from Ogiri Maxwell, the chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, were fruitless.
In regards to the attack, he did not return calls or text messages.
DSP Edet Udeme, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that police had been sent to the village.
“An attack that took place in a community early today is known to the police.” Police have been called to the location. According to Udeme, “they are taking the necessary steps to restore calm and start a thorough investigation into the incident.”
He continued by saying that the leadership was keeping an eye on the issue and will offer further details once investigators determined the attack’s causes.
However, an official casualty number was not disclosed by the police spokesperson.
