Makoko residents who were demonstrating against demolitions at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday were dispersed by police officers as security personnel used tear gas.

According to reports, the demonstrators had assembled at the assembly building to call for a halt to home demolitions and forced evictions in communities throughout the state.

However, the police’s use of tear gas caused panic in the neighborhood, causing demonstrators, locals, vendors, and commuters to evacuate in all directions to avoid being impacted.

Movement throughout the facility was hampered by the situation as demonstrators fled for their lives amid the mayhem.

The protest had temporarily dispersed, but security personnel remained on the area.
