The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has stated that the only way to build a prosperous nation is to raise a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders committed to selfless service and good governance.
This was made known by Obi in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday after his engagement with students of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra state.
The former governor of Anambra State said the interactive session gave him the chance to meet with students who asked questions that reflected the frustration of many young Nigerians with poor governance and pervasive corruption that had deprived them of the opportunities to fulfill their potential.
Obi said he was encouraged by the students’ optimism and desire to contribute to nation building in spite of the challenges
He said that leadership remained the greatest determinant of a nation’s progress, and that effective leaders must have character, competence, capacity and compassion as well as the willingness to make sacrifices for the good of the people.
“Leaders committed to saving lives, investing in education, creating opportunities and building strong institutions are the future of Nigeria.
Together, by bringing up a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams that is Possible, Obi said.
