A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu has said that President Bola Tinubu will not get up to 3 million votes in a free and fair election.
Momodu warned that the political situation has changed dramatically since the 2023 election and warned that major candidates could not take automatic retention of voters for granted.
He said this on Wednesday while featuring on Channels Television.
“Are you telling me that Tinubu will retain all the 8 million plus that voted him last time? How do you know… What is the guarantee that Obi and Kwankwaso are the only ones that will keep all those who voted for them last time? “The situation has changed,” he asked.
“If Tinubu allows a free and fair election, he might not even get 3 million votes,” Momodu added.
He pointed to the poor performance of some G5 governors who could not get senatorial seats in their states, including Enugu, Abia and Benue, as proof of voter’s loyalty shifting.
“The unity that currently exists among some opposition elements is not a genuine commitment that will last long but a reaction to the pressure from the ruling government,” Ovation publisher added.
“Tinubu pushed all of them together. And that’s why they all came one way. “Which would have been beautiful because it would have been like a two party race,” Momodu said.
Speaking on coalition talks, the ADC chieftain said his party remains focused and steadfast.
He invited anyone who wanted to come along, but he would not accept any sort of blackmail or the idea that victory depended on one man.
“Those who want to come in should come in. You cannot subject yourself to blackmail, those who do not want to join; Only one man can make us win,” he said.
He noted that the 2019 alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Obi failed to win, and their separate contests in 2023 also failed to displace the ruling party.
