Democracy Day: United States Temporarily Closes Missions in Nigeria

The United States announced the closure of its offices in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria.

The US Mission Nigeria in a notice on Friday disclosed this.

The closure is for the June 12 Democracy Day holiday.

The U.S. Nigeria Mission said, “In observance of the Democracy Day holiday, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, June 12, 2026.

The Nigerian government had declared Friday a public holiday.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his democracy day message on Friday, said Nigerians should not stop believing in the country despite her challenges.
