Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured a place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after a 3-0 victory over Togo’s Sparrow Hawks in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.
They beat Ghana 4-2 to win their first two games and have qualified for the last four with a game to spare. The defending champions have now won their first two games. The result also ended Togo’s hopes of advancing after their earlier 3-1 loss to Burkina Faso.
The first half saw little in the way of clear cut chances for either side as both teams could not break the deadlock before the interval. But Nigeria came out for the second half with a new sense of purpose and took the lead within a minute of the restart.

Muiz Adeleke opened the scoring with a composed finish to give Abdu Maikaba’s side the lead before striking again in the 57th minute to put the Flying Eagles firmly in control.
The in-form striker has scored four goals in two games and is one of the competition’s top performers. Abdullahi Agbeloye capped a fine second half with a goal five minutes from time to make it three.
The victory takes Nigeria to six points from two Group B games and leaves them in the last four. The Flying Eagles will close their group campaign against Burkina Faso on Sunday.
