Four Kano State House of Representatives members have left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The lawmakers involved are Sani Wakili, who represents the Minjibir/Ungogo federal constituency, Muktar Zakari, who represents the Tarauni federal constituency, Umar Datti, who represents the Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam federal constituency, and Abdulhakeem Ado, who represents the Wudil/Garko federal constituency.

On Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read their letters announcing their defection during the plenary session.

Two more lawmakers switched parties during the same session. Kabiru Amadu, who is from the Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency in Zamfara State, and Emeka Chinedu, who is from the Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte federal constituency in Imo State, both left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers who switched parties said that problems within their old parties made them leave.

In the last few weeks, the ADC has gotten more lawmakers as political alliances start to change in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.

Thaddeus Attah from Eti-Osa federal constituency in Lagos State, Usman Zubairu from Birnin Gwari/Giwa federal constituency in Kaduna State, and Sani Noma from Argungu/Augie federal constituency in Kebbi State all joined the ADC a day earlier after leaving the Labour Party and the APC.
