Suspected gunmen on Wednesday abducted no fewer than five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. GAPOSA, Ogun State.
It was gathered that the incident happened at about 8p.m. on Wednesday when the assailants invaded a private student hostel along Paraga Road, Ipara-Remo, one of the communities sharing a boundary with the polytechnic.
It was gathered that the assailants allegedly shot and abducted some students during the attack which lasted for about 30 minutes.
The incident prompted the polytechnic management to cancel all examinations scheduled for Thursday.
The unfortunate incident yesterday has resulted in the cancellation of today’s exam. But the examination tomorrow is still scheduled as planned. Any alteration in tomorrow’s examination will be duly announced through an official announcement.
“Students are advised to stay calm, stay positive and continue preparing for their exams for now. “We hope the situation will be resolved soon,” said the notice.
The Students’ Union Government, SUG said five students were affected.
The attacked hostel “is situated in a remote area surrounded by thick bush, making it vulnerable and unsuitable as a safe residential environment for students,” a joint statement signed by SUG President, Akinpelu Bukunmi Timothy, General Secretary Salau Boluwaduro Saidat, and Public Relations Officer, Matthew Francis Sonayon, said.
“At about 7.45 pm, suspected armed bandits raided a private students’ hostel at Paraga Road, Ipara. The hostel is located in a remote place with thick bush surrounding it, thus making it vulnerable and not a safe residential environment for students.
“The attack lasted about 30 minutes. Given the hostel’s remote location, the incident was not heard or responded to in a timely fashion by those in the nearby areas. The attackers fired gunshots during the attack but no student was killed. By the grace of God, some students escaped through the POP ceiling, while others could not escape.

“We have confirmed that five students were abducted in the incident. “The matter has been officially reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies and we are sure that immediate efforts are underway to secure the safe rescue of the affected students.
They urged students, parents, guardians and the general public to ignore “false, exaggerated and unverified information” circulating on social media.
“Whilst the incident is genuine and deeply regrettable, many of the stories circulating at the moment do not accurately represent the facts and serve only to generate unnecessary fear and panic within the school community,” the union said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, when contacted, confirmed the abduction but said the command was yet to ascertain if the victims were students.
The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the alleged incident of abduction at a private hostel in the Ipara area on Wednesday night, July 29, 2026.
The Command responded to the distress call immediately, initiating a coordinated operational response, deploying tactical teams and intelligence assets to the area. Bush-combing and other targeted operations are continuing with a view to effecting the safe rescue of the victims and arrest of those responsible.

He appealed to members of the public not to give credence to unverified figures and to desist from spreading misinformation that could jeopardize the ongoing operations.
This was reported to be barely 24hrs after a final year female marketing student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori was killed during an overnight robbery in the Eruku area of the community.
