Former Labour Party Vice Presidential Candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed, has said that he is satisfied with what he has achieved in life and does not see the holding of the offices of president or vice president as a must for him.

In an interview on Channels Television, Ahmed recounts how he ventured into politics at a very young age and the progress he has made over the years.

He noted that he began his political career at a young age when he became a member of the House of Representatives at the age of 33.

Later, he said, he moved up in public service and became a senator at age 41.

Ahmed also spoke of his non-political activities. He said he had received approval to establish two universities, which he said were part of his efforts to promote education in the country.

Besides education, he said he also invested heavily in health care by building what he described as the largest private-owned hospital in Africa. “These accomplishments are some of the milestones I am thankful for in my life,” he said.

“Over the years, many have come to me and shared with me their opinions about public office and success,” he said, reports said. He said some have suggested that one can still live a fulfilled life without being at the top of the political ladder.

He said: “Some people come to my office to tell me that ‘if you die without holding any political office, you are okay, thank your God’. And I am so happy and pleased with what God Almighty has allowed me to achieve in my very young age. 33 House of Reps, 41 Senate, then I got a university license, and another university license, the biggest private hospital in Africa and the list goes on and on. Why do I have to be vice president or president?”
