Content creator Isbae U has revealed how the backlash he experienced during a 2022 controversy affected his outlook on fame, public opinion and his career.
The Nigerian entertainer, whose real name is Adebayo Ridwan, discussed the experience during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown.
Isbae U said the controversy was particularly difficult because it was the first time he had faced such intense public criticism.
He explained that people who had previously supported his content and regularly praised him began making negative comments.
The sudden change made him question whether his career could survive the backlash.
According to the content creator, he sought advice from fellow skit maker Mr Macaroni during the period.
He recalled asking him whether the situation marked the end of his career because he was unsure about what would happen next.
“2022 was a tough time for me. It was the first time I was going through something like that, and then I asked Mr Macaroni, ‘Is this the end?’” Isbae U said.
He explained that the experience taught him that public opinion could change rapidly.
People who had previously expressed admiration for his work, he said, started criticising him without necessarily knowing what he was experiencing privately.
Instead of allowing the criticism to stop him, Isbae U said he decided to concentrate on his craft and personal development.

He focused on improving his content and becoming a better person while continuing to entertain his audience.
He also changed his approach to social media by reducing the amount of personal information he shared publicly.
“I stepped back from posting anything about my life and I kept giving them entertainment,” he said.
According to him, he decided to focus on producing content rather than constantly responding to how members of the public felt about him.
Isbae U also explained the concept behind his interview programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
He said the show aims to expose viewers to a different side of celebrities that they may not have seen before.
The content creator added that he would like to interview Donald Trump.
His experience, he suggested, reinforced the importance of focusing on personal growth and professional development even when public opinion turns negative.
