Nigerians have expressed concern on social media over the alleged access of Lere Olayinka, Spokesman to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to an administrative portal linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was gathered to be coming after Olayinka shared screenshots questioning Nollywood actor cum politician, Emeka Ike’s transfer of voter registration.
Olayinka posted screenshots on 𝕏 that showed information from what looked like an INEC administrative dashboard, including details of a voter transfer application and timestamps related to the registration process.
The social media post drew online criticism, with many Nigerians questioning how a political aide got access to a restricted electoral database.
Critics also said that if the screenshots were from an official INEC system, the incident could raise issues of data privacy, the security of voter information and the potential for unauthorized access to electoral records.
Some social media users alleged that INEC has been compromised, while others urged the electoral body to clarify the authorisation to access such information. @RealQueenBee__ tweeted, “THE INEC BACKEND SERVER HAS BEEN HACKED BY WIKE’S MEN.
