The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Engineer Kale Kawu as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki made this announcement on Saturday.
Kawu, he said, was a product of extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and other gubernatorial aspirants.
The ex-Governor of Kwara State said other aspirants withdrew and backed the consensus candidate.
“I am delighted to announce that, after wide consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have reached a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
“That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.
Thank you to the other aspirants who have generously stepped aside in the supreme interest of our party and state to support this consensus. It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will see us to victory.
“I wish all our members, delegates and teaming supporters a successful, peaceful and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has dismissed claims that it stopped presidential aspirants from obtaining nomination forms ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.
The faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, said in a statement on Thursday that the report was misleading and unfounded.
He maintained that the party had not ordered any official to stop aspirants from joining the process.
He said the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) was not aware of any move by party officials to stop interested contenders from buying the nomination forms.
