Kano Constituency Bye-Election: INEC Sets June 20 Poll Date

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced June 20, 2026 as the date for the conduct of the bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State following the death of the lawmaker, Muhammad Danjuma who represented the constituency in April 2026.

State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango, who disclosed this to journalists in Kano on Wednesday.

He said that in Warawa Local Government Area, a total of 143,675 registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards. According to him, a total of 162,445 voters have registered and collected their voter cards across 15 wards in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

Zango said the commission would work closely with security agencies, especially the police, to ensure adequate security during the election, as security concerns were emerging in parts of the constituency.

“We are involving security agencies to ensure the peaceful and credible conduct of the election across affected areas,” he said.

The INEC official also said that Kano still remains the state with the highest number of completed voter registrations in the country.
